Description
People credited with this unit standard are generally found within the general accounting field with a specialism in Information Systems. On successful completion of the unit standard, people will be able to analyse information systems in business and participate in the design of identified Information Systems.
Course Content
Unit 1: Demonstrate an understanding of the role of information in organisation design and behaviour
- The role of information in organisation control and behaviour is described to clients in a meaningful manner
- Current terminology describes economic, technical, operational, and behavioural risks associated with information in organisations
- The effects of new development techniques and management theories on the formal systems development lifecycle are evaluated and explained in line with organisational status
- The Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is described in relation to project management and documentation requirements
- Databases and database management systems are explained to clients regarding organisation, acquisition, storage, access, sharing, control, and implications
Unit 2: Participate in the analysis and design of information systems
- System analysis and design techniques appropriate to the organisational structure and requirements are applied
- The organisation’s information requirements are elicited utilising appropriate communication techniques
- All relevant documentation is compiled in accordance with organisational and system needs
- Systems are sourced and designed to meet the organisation’s information requirements
Unit 3: Maintain control over system development processes
- Investigation and feasibility studies are conducted to evaluate and control system development
- The phases of the SDLC are adhered to and changes are made when necessary
- System acquisition policies are formulated and monitored on an ongoing basis
- Control over system development processes is maintained through continuous, accepted evaluation and testing procedures
